Fleck 3900 Softener Repair – Emergency Softener Repair

Emergency Softener Repair Prevents Brine Tank Overflow for Local Facility

Complete Water Solutions was recently called out for an emergency repair after a facility noticed one of their softeners had gone hard and the brine tank was overflowing. Once onsite, our technicians quickly diagnosed the issue and uncovered the root cause before it resulted in more serious system damage.

What We Found During the Inspection

After evaluating the system, our team discovered that the Fleck 3900 piston, Part Number 60036, was stuck in the open position. When we removed the piston, we found a piece of plastic lodged inside, preventing it from cycling correctly. This obstruction caused the softener to remain open, ultimately leading to the hard water breakthrough and brine tank overflow.

While onsite, Complete Water Solutions conducted a full review of the softener system to identify any additional concerns. It became clear that the equipment had not been serviced in more than 10 years, which increased the likelihood of worn components and future failures.

Recommended Water System Upgrades

To restore reliable performance and reduce the risk of recurring problems, Complete Water Solutions recommended:

  • New piston, spacer, and seal kits
These components are essential for proper softener function and often degrade over time.

  • A controller upgrade
The existing controller was a 2014 Systemax unit, which is no longer in production and may be difficult to support moving forward.

Proactively addressing these items can help extend the life of the softener system and prevent emergency service calls.
