Complete Water Solutions Can Upgrade and Refurbish Your Equipment
Did you know that Complete Water Solutions can upgrade and refurbish your industrial water equipment?
At Complete Water Solutions, we work with businesses every day who assume their aging waters systems need to be replaced entirely. In many cases though, that’s not true.
An Outdated Pharmaceutical Water System
We recently had a customer that was operating an older GE Water pharma system that had served them well—but was no longer meeting performance expectations.
Original system performance:
- 5 GPM production rate
- 2–4 megohm resistivity
While functional, the system struggled to meet the increasing demand and higher purity requirements.
Before the upgrade
The equipment showed its age both in output capacity and component efficiency. After reviewing the system and doing a full evaluation, Complete Water Solutions determined this system was perfect for upgrades rather than a full replacement.

The Upgrade Strategy
Instead of starting from scratch, our team identified key areas where modern components and controls could significantly improve performance.
Key Improvements Included:
- Installation of new RO membranes
- Installation of big blue filter housing for better prefiltration
- pH injection
- new pressure gauges
- Upgraded flow meters
- New E-cell MK3 EDI Module
- Controller upgraded from Mettler Toledo CR200 to M800
- New conductivity, resistivity and pH instrumentation
- New Allen Bradley 12″ HMI
- PLC Program Updates for better monitoring and automation
- PolyPro piping upgrades on EDI Dilute stream
- Chlorine monitor pre RO testing (tied into PLC)
This approach focused on maximizing existing infrastructure while modernizing the system’s most critical performance components.
After the Upgrade: A Major Performance Boost
The results speak for themselves.
Upgraded system performance:
- 10 GPM production rate (@ 50°F) of deionized water with 17 megohm resistivity
That’s double the output capacity and a dramatic increase in water purity—bringing the system in line with better pharmaceutical water.

Beyond performance, the upgraded system is now easier to monitor, control, and maintain thanks to improved instrumentation and automation.
Why Upgrade Instead of Replace?
This project highlights a key takeaway: replacement isn’t always necessary.
Upgrading an existing reverse osmosis or deionization system can:
- Reduce your capital costs
- Minimize downtime
- Improve efficiency and reliability
- Extend equipment lifespan
- Meet updated production and quality demands
Is Your System a Candidate for Upgrade?
If you’re operating an older water treatment system that’s struggling to keep up, it may not need to be replaced, just reengineered. A professional evaluation can determine whether targeted upgrades could deliver similar gains in performance, efficiency, and water quality.
Complete Water Solutions can provide refurbishment solutions and new solutions for your water filtration needs.
