Description
Weak Acid Cation Exchange Resin
Ecolab manufactures Weak Acid Cation (WAC) ion exchange resins in three different forms: Porous, Macroporous, and Powder. They are primarily used in water softening or dealkalization, but also can be used pharmaceutical applications. All weak acid cation resin products have a polyacrylic backbone. The functional carboxylic groups give high chemical efficiency (regeneration) in many applications. Weakly acidic cation ion exchange resins are increasingly being used in special applications including treatment of waste water streams in order to reduce environmental pollution.
Weak Acid Cation (WAC) Porous
The weak acid cation porous ion exchange resin family of products have carboxylic functional groups and give high chemical efficiency in many applications. This includes the removal of bicarbonate alkalinity, dealkalization and softening of water. This product has also been used to selectively recover transition metals from aqueous solutions and may be operated at relatively high temperatures.
It is typically used prior to a strong acid cation resin bed in order to reduce the ionic load. Because of it’s lower density than strong acid resins, they are ideal for use in layered beds.
Typical applications for WAC resins:
- Dealkalization
- Deionization
- Softening
- Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs)
- Temporary hardness removal
- Softening – high TDS waters
Weak Acid Cation (WAC) Macroporous Products
Our weak acid cation macroporous ion exchange resin products have fast kinetics and high capacity and similar to all macroporous products have high oxidative resistance and osmotic shock. They are primarily used for dealkalization and softening of water but have also been used to selectively recover transition metals. Weak acid cation macroporous resin products have carboxylic functional groups which give high chemical efficiency in many applications including the removal of bicarbonate alkalinity.
