Before You Purchase an Industrial RO System: Feed Water Testing

Before You Purchase an Industrial RO System: Feed Water Testing

Feed water quality is one of the most important parts of designing a system. A full water analysis is the best way to help in identifying not only what you will need in the way of pre-treatment equipment, but also to help estimate the water quality output of the RO System. A full analysis may also help determine what might be the biggest foulant which can help in selecting RO membrane cleaning chemistry. A full water analysis is different than the water quality report that is issued by most United States Municipal Water Supply.

Water Treatments We Use for Industrial Cleaning:

Below is just a sample of what a full analysis may look like or at least what is recommended to test for:

  • pH
  • Alkalinity “M” CaCO3
  • Alkalinity “P” CaCO3
  • Nitrate as NO3
  • Fluoride as F
  • TOC (total organic carbon)
  • Turbidity NTU
  • Chloride
  • Tin
  • Zinc
  • Sulfur
  • Aluminum
  • Arsenic
  • Boron
  • Cobalt
  • Copper
  • Iron
  • Potassium
  • Lithium
  • Magnesium
  • Manganese
  • Molybdenum
  • Sodium
  • Nickle
  • Lead

Getting a sample for analysis may be harder in new facility builds. If you have a city feed water source or municipal feed water source, then go to a local nearby business or public area where a water sample may be obtained. We recommend getting this close to the location where you will be building. The reason being is that nearby city wells or even the pipes that carry the water can change the dynamic of the water analysis. Enough that it can require a different approach to design. If you will be drilling a well onsite, look to the local businesses or buildings that you could potentially obtain a water sample from. There is a good chance they may be in the same Aquifer as your location. Also, you could potentially grab a sample after the well is installed.

Your water has to be clean. It has to remain clean. Your business and your needs change and grow. You can’t know how to adjust without the most accurate data regarding your Industrial RO system.
Our experienced and professional technicians first get to know and understand HOW you use your water. There are many different approaches that can be taken and each possible solution applies to many different factors and variables including how exactly are you using the water being filtered through your Industrial RO System. Once we understand the “flow” of your water and how it is being processed and filtered, we can then offer you the exact cleaning procedures and chemicals that best fit your cleaning needs. You can trust us to be upfront about what your Industrial RO System needs and how best to accomplish that. We’ll let you know when your RO system is running at peak capacity and when the system you have is sufficient, or when it may be necessary for an upgrade.
